Harvest and transportation Impacting Lower Mississippi River Region

CNN PRODUCER NOTE     enfofan says states like Arkansas, Louisiana and Mississippi are spared from the intensity of the drought, which is due to their irrigation practices. While filming his iReport he says some farms burned off the crops they were not able to harvest in time. He says the drought is impacting the transportation of barges along the Mississippi River, particularly the movement of barges. The drought has limited barges on the river, and many are smaller in size and carrying less cargo.
    - Jareen, CNN iReport producer

Early planting in Arkansas, Louisiana and Mississippi has helped to preserve better than average crop yeilds during the drought, but low water in the Mississippi River is causing havoc on getting that grain to market
