Portions of Metro Manila and nearby provinces have been submerged in floodwaters since Tuesday, Aug. 7, due to the relentless rains brought about by the enhanced southwest monsoon, forcing nearly 270,000 families to flee their homes.
As of 4:30 p.m. today, at least 19 people were reported dead. Nine of the reported casualties were victims of a landslide incident in Quezon City, the National Disaster Risk Reduction and Management Council (NDRRMC) said.
Classes in all levels have been suspended since Tuesday.
The state weather bureau said that Metro Manila and nearby provinces are expected to experience improved weather conditions by Friday.
