My fiance and I had been dating for over 6 years 4 years of it through college and the last two we lived with each other and I decided to finally pop the question. I couldn't think of anything amazing to do especially since we live in Iowa. Not exactly a state with beaches besides man made ones. I knew that her being from California she loved the beaches. So I got up real early on Sunday August 21, 2011 (yes exact date, I don't forget it) planned what originally was going to be to take our two dogs to saylorville lake and let them swim in the water and we would have a lunch and I would read her a poem and pop the question. Pretty boring I know. Once we got there and we started messing around with the dogs and we started eating and I was getting real nervous to pop the question so I decided to ask her if she wanted to play some games in the sand (on our man-made beach) we started by playing tic-tac-toe which got boring, then I had a great idea to play hangman in the sand and I thought that's what I will use to transition into me popping the question. So we started playing hangman, I let her go first and she came up with a word, then I went and changed the rules and said that it needs to be a sentence or question, then she guessed mine, she went again, then it was my turn and I put up the correct amount of letters and spaces and she started guessing and it took til she had about 75% of all the words til her hands clasped her mouth and I saw the tears rolling down. I walked over to where I had the poem and the ring hiding the whole time and I got down on one knee and asked her to marry me. The funny thing is when I opened up the ring case to show her the ring and ask her she couldn't even say yes she was in so much shock. I still joke with her to this day that she still didn't say yes to me on that day (which she really didn't) but we are getting married 8/25/2012 which is 17 days away and I couldn't be more excited to spend the rest of my life with her. She is truly special!
