This iReport is part of an assignment:
What do the Paralympics mean to you?
American Women Rock the Olympics
Title IX changed sports in America as we know it. In 1972 I was a high school sophomore athlete in a sports world dominated by the guys. They got the best gym time and better uniforms. They got the choice fields. We got whatever was available. But when Congress passed Title IX, girl's sports were given equal access and funding. A new world opened for girl athletes.
Girl jocks were considered pioneers back in 1972. I will own that title. :)
And because of those who fought for the rights of women in America, we have some of the finest athletes in the world.
Women rock and have proven to be superior athletes, if Olympic medals are any indication.
Well done, ladies. We've come so very far.
Thanks for reading!
