Times Square, New York City - NYPD Has Knife Wielding Man At Gunpoint - Later Shot Dead

CNN PRODUCER NOTE     medic2964 says he saw a man standing on 44th Street between Seventh Avenue and Broadway on Saturday shouting something that did not make any sense. A female police officer approached the man, asking him to move to the sidewalk. 'We had just crossed the street when we heard a commotion behind us. I looked back saw him holding the gun out and saw NYPD officers at gunpoint as he began to move south on seventh,' he said.

He grabbed his camera and starting recording the situation. He says the man took out a large knife, and police response was instant. A group of officers pursued the individual down the street. As a paramedic, he knew the situation was serious. 'People think a person with a knife is not all that dangerous. I have seen people die from stab wounds,' he said.

He only pursued the officers briefly, returning to his family who were waiting for him on the sidewalk. When he got home he found out the knife-wielding man was eventually shot by the NYPD.
    - Jareen, CNN iReport producer

An emotionally disturbed man pulls a huge knife on an NYPD officer and a chase ensues down 7th Avenue starting at 44th Street with NYPD officers at gunpoint. I would have followed further, but I'd basically abandoned my family and some visiting friends to get this video. Police later shot the suspect dead at 37th Street after he lunged at an officer. I was standing 10 feet from this guy when he started ranting some crazy dialogue in the middle of 44th Street between Broadway and 7th Avenue. A female NYPD officer told him it was fine to speak, but do it on the sidewalk. A minute later this chase began. I just remember the knife being HUGE.
