Manhattan Dominican Celebration

New York City is full of parades especially in the summer months. The Dominican community celebrated two parades within 2 weeks of each other, one in the Bronx and this one in Manhattan on Sunday August 12th. The parade took off from 37th st to 52nd st. on the Avenue of the Americas.
Mayor Mike Bloomberg marched alongside the president of the parade waving the Dominican flag as well as Police commissioner Kelly. Public advocate Bill De Blasio and City Comptrollers John Lui and Bill Thompson made their way up the avenue greeting the crowd. Who knows, maybe one of them may become the next mayor of NYC.
The crowd showed their pride as they waved the Dominican flags every time floats, politicians, television and music celebrities’ made their way up the avenue. Participants came as far as the Dominican Republic to take part in these festivities.
