STATEMENT FROM ISAF'S REGIONAL COMMANDER SOUTHWEST ON THE ZARANJ ATTACKS
CAMP LEATHERNECK, Afghanistan -- The following statement is from the commander of the International Security Assistance Force Regional Command Southwest, Gen. Charles 'Mark' Gurganus. "I offer my deepest sympathy to all those affected by these tragic and senseless acts of violence. I find it completely incomprehensible that anyone would choose to attack defenseless patients at a hospital and innocent civilians at the bazaar going about their daily lives. I honor the brave Afghan security forces, some of whom lost their lives, seeking to protect the people and I deplore these terrible attacks on innocent civilians by the enemies of Afghanistan. The Afghan authorities' swift response to these cowardly acts prevented even more casualties. We continue to offer support to the Government of Afghanistan and people of Nimroz at this heartbreaking time, working together for a peaceful future for this Nation."
