    I Wish This Was....

CNN PRODUCER NOTE     iReporter ecotraveler discovered that this beautiful 1920s church in Christianburg, in her home state of Virginia, had been abandoned. When the railroad passenger service was to the area was discontinued, businesses in the area began failing. Our iReporter described the financial crisis as like a glacier "barrelling down upon us, crushing everything in its path".
    - sarahbrowngb, CNN iReport producer

more than just a sad representation of our economy. Victory Temple, formerly a church in old Cambria, Virginia was housed in a 1928 Gothic Revival building with beautiful leaded glass windows.
Like much of this area, the economy played havoc, and the expansive old building that once hosted happy families, greeted old friends and provided refuge and hope just sits. Vacant. Windows are broken and boarded up and the grass is overgrown.
Ironically, this is a busy street and less than a 10 minute drive to the Virginia Tech campus.
It could be revitalized as a church with a Family Life Center. Given it's location, zoning, and the Blue Ridge and Appalachian Mountain surroundings, it's also ideal for a community center with a wildlife and science education and refuge facility.
