    Dragon*Con costumes and more

    I love playing dress-up!

I have a reputation among my friends as being extremely professional, put-together, and fashionable--I work at an arts non-profit and am often out in the community, so I want to look my best!  So it blows people's minds that I let my freak flag fly with outlandish costumes and wigs.  It isn't that weird to me, though, I love dressing up!  I've been attending Dragon*Con since 2009 and have attended every year in costume. After a brief and misguided foray into Steampunk, I decided to focus more on costuming characters from films and tv that I loved. I can't sew a lick, so most of my costumes are commissioned. This year I am wearing my Blind Mag costume from Repo! The Genetic Opera, from the "Chase the Morning Scene." I have had this costume since 2010 and it is one of my favorites. The dress is commissioned and I try to tweak the accessories a bit, namely the wigs and contacts, every year. I am also wearing a Portal Weighted Companion Cube dress that I macguyvered together--that will be my "cute" costume since it involves a kicky pink wig. That costume involved a few nights at home with scissor, felt, and ribbons. But my amazing new costume this year is a screen-accurate Melisandre from the second season of HBO's Game of Thrones, complete with a full neck-and-shoulder piece and long, flowy red sleeves. The dress and the neckpiece are separate commissions. This has been a hard costume to put together, but it will be worth it! I can't wait to wear it around Con.
