USA's Fittest Mayor? Chicago Mayor Rahm Emanuel Finishes 2012 Chicago Triathlon

CNN PRODUCER NOTE     RaymondBritt says the early morning sun was literally rising over Lake Michigan as athletes jumped into the water for the start of the 2012 Chicago Triathlon. Amongst the athletes was Chicago Mayor Rahm Emanuel. 'There was no big fuss about him. They announced who he was, but there was no fanfare. He raced very well,' he said. 'Of the politicians I have seen race, Rahm is the best. He acquits himself well on the course,' he said. RaymondBritt describes the triathlon as Chicago at its best. '10,000 people started off in what is called waves, so 200 people go every four minutes. It was very organized. It really showcases Chicago as a great city,' he said.
    - Jareen, CNN iReport producer

Rahm Emanuel, Chicago's Mayor and former White House Chief of Staff, proved once again that he may be the fittest Mayor in the country.

Starting his Sprint Distance race at 6am, Chicago's Monroe Harbor, Rahm swam 0.75k, biked 22k and ran 5k, culminating in a sprint to the end with his son to finish in a very respectable time of 1:33:46.

Although Mayor Emanuel was the first athlete in the water at daybreak, he was far from alone on the race course. More than 10,000 triathletes competed in the 30th Anniversary Chicago Triathlon, making it one of the largest triathlons in the world.

Emanuel, who has earned a reputation for a very tough political and managerial style, finished the race in a decidedly humble manner. No big celebration, no press conference. He simply crossed the line, reached out to shake the hand of his son, and quietly walked to mingle quietly with other proud finishers.

Because, while he may be the fittest mayor in America, when he's on the race course, he's at home anonymously among thousands of proud competitors. And that's the way he seems to like it.
