CNN PRODUCER NOTE     Deeply passionate about the issue of homelessness and refusing to be blinded to the epidemic, brettmohar says he thinks the homeless are extremely misunderstood and unfairly judged. "People generally don’t want to spend a few minutes to hear their stories. Most of the people I spent time with in these photographs were intelligent, humorous, sober and open-minded. But they lacked optimism and hope because many have been on the streets so long that they don’t remember what it was like when things were different," he says. "Not a single subject I shot blamed anyone for their current situation. The majority of them were extremely grateful for the help they do get from the community. There is another, softer, and more humanistic side to nearly everyone. Including every subject in these images."
