Dogs in the Philippines Unleash Their Super PAW-ers

CNN PRODUCER NOTE     Pet lovers in Manila, Philippines, showed their support at the very first Doggie Fun Fair that was held to promote awareness on animal welfare. natashamarie captured this photo right after the award for "Best pet and guardian in a superhero costume" was handed out. "I was very amused at the creative costumes of the contestants. A woman dressed in Hawkgirl and her Chihuahua dressed as Hawkman were without a doubt, the crowd's favorite!" she says. "Activities included an inspirational talk from celebrity guest speakers, a talent show, dog sports, and a fashion show, which was the highlight of the event. Everyone was in a positive mood despite the heat of the afternoon sun. No one seemed to mind at all and everyone just had fun."

In the Philippines, dogs and guardians alike turned into their favorite superheroes on Sunday, August 26, as Manila held its first ever Doggie Fun Fair, dubbed as the biggest dog festival in the city.

Cuddly canines strutted on the catwalk wearing the cutest costumes alongside their guardians who gamely donned similar outfits and loosely imitated their superhero alter-egos.

With more than a thousand participants, the event was a huge success in raising funds for two of the country’s biggest animal shelters---Philippine Animal Welfare Society (PAWS) and Compassion and Responsibilty for Animals (CARA) ---as well as promoting animal rights and responsible pet ownership

When asked, “What super power do you wish your dog to possess?” one guardian replied, “Dogs have the innate ability to make us happy, and I think that is the greatest power of all.”
