    Hurricane Isaac: Why we need levees

     
    The first image shows water from the Mississippi River on the right side and the town of Braithwaite, LA on the left. If you look closely, you can see where the river is about 10 feet higher than the land in Braithwaite.

    The next image shows where I-10 near Laplace, LA. The image on the left is pre-Hurricane Isaac and the image on the right is the same area after the storm surge rose in Lake Pontchartrain. There are no levees protecting LaPlace from Lake Pontchartrain.
