For Romney, the Race Begins in Earnest

CNN PRODUCER NOTE     k3vsDad has been a close observer all through this election.
    - hhanks, CNN iReport producer

Tonight,  the race for the White House began in earnest for Mitt Romney. Tonight,  the former Massachusetts governor accepted the nomination of the  Republican Party to be its standard bearer in November to send packing  the current occupant, President Barack Obama.

Next  week,  it will be time for the Democrats to give their blessing to a  run for a 2nd term to Obama. But tonight, it was Romney's night to howl.  And, howl he did.

Prior  to Romney taking the stage surrounded by a cheering audience on its  feet in anticipation, Florida Senator Marco Rubio made the introductory  speech that would bring the nominee to the podium. Rubio recalled how  his parents worked hard after immigrating from Cuba for a better life in  the US of A.

Rubio  noted how his parents never made it rich, but they did indeed live the  American dream. That dream lives on and now has their son as a US  Senator. Rubio had the crowd cheering as he laid the foundation for why  now was the time to put the keys to 1600 Pennsylvania Avenue in the  hands of Romney.

Romney  made his way through the crowd and to the stage. No one expected a  barnburner, but tonight Romney showed he is not the robotic, emotionless  CEO. Romney tonight displayed in his eye, his face that he is a man  that does have passion, that does have the caring side with the ability  to take on the difficult road ahead.

Time  and time again the crowd interrupted his remarks. Romney proved tonight  that he has a vision, a goal for America that looks ahead and does not  return to the past.

For  Romney, tonight was the crowning point of his life. Tonight, Romney did  in fact become the face of the GOP. Not a wild-eyed fanatic of the far  right, but a steady voice with a steely eye ready to face whatever  adversity should arise.

From  the Cornfield, as I keep saying, barring an implosion on the campaign  trail, tonight, more than ever I am ready for a change, a change for  leadership in Washington.
