    Seeker Fans Have Style!

Once again, the Legend of the Seeker/Terry Goodkind fandom has converged to DragonCon bringing beautiful cosplayers - some with original costumes from the show, a fan table, panels, and a costume parade group.

An estimated 700 DragonCon attendees stopped by the fan table last year to show their support for the TV show ('Legend of the Seeker' is loosely based on "The Sword of Truth" novels by Terry Goodkind). While the novels are geared to an adult audience, the TV show manages to attract a very diverse crowd - from children and teens, to adults of all ages, and like the books, the show is a big global success with an estimated 15 million fans and growing.

Fans in costume are a big hit! The Mord-Sith lady warriors in red and white leather are hard to miss and usually attract a big crowd of photographers. Some of the fans are wearing original show costumes that they purchased on eBay and are a testimony of the magnificent craftsmanship of the costumes which are 100% handmade. Jane Holland, the costume designer, is an award-winning professional. What's even more inspiring is seeing the fans' passion for Terry Goodkind novels as fans wear fan-made costumes representing characters that appear in the later novels and have yet to be featured on the TV show.

Produced by ABC Studios, 'Legend of the Seeker' aired as first-run syndication. With little to no promotion, and an erratic airing schedule, the show averaged 3.6 million viewers during its first month of airing, won an Emmy Award for “Outstanding Music Composition for a Series” (2009), received an Emmy Nomination for “Outstanding Main Title Theme Music” (2010), and made it to “TV Guide Most Popular TV Shows” (2011). On April 26th 2010, Michael Ausiello reported that the show would be cancelled as the Tribune Company/WGN America had not purchased distribution for season 3. The Tribune Company owned 35% of the affiliates that aired the show in the U.S., making up a large percentage of the total number of affiliates that aired 'Legend of the Seeker.'

Fans decided to take action in an effort to encourage ABC Studios and other potential networks to pick up the series for a third season. And the fan campaign got a boost early on thank to the support of Terry Goodkind, the beloved author of "The Sword of Truth" book series which 'Legend of the Seeker' is based on. Mr. Goodkind provided a public statement of support and signed DVDs for part of the project fundraiser. Legend of the Seeker fans were inspired by the previous successes of 'Chuck,' 'Jericho,' 'Firefly,' 'Star Trek' and 'Farscape' – all shows that had been saved by their loyal followers.

With the success of other fantasy shows, such as 'Once Upon A Time,' and 'Legend of the Seeker' airing for the first time in many European countries with the Seeker fan base doubling over the past year, "Seekerites" are not giving up hope, and are ready to "invade" DragonCon and other genre conventions in style!
