On the Recent Speech of Condoleezza Rice at the Republican National Convention
I was really touched by Miss Rice’s appeal to her fellow Republicans that they ought to champion the creation of a humane immigration policy. Miss Rice said, "We must continue to welcome the world's most ambitious people to be a part of us. In that way we stay young and optimistic and determined." She also added, “We need immigration laws that protect our borders; meet our economic needs; and yet show that we are a compassionate people." I completely agree with her comments about US immigration policy. I’m from the Philippines and I know that there are Filipinos and other Asians who have been residing peacefully and lawfully in the US for more than 10 years now and, yet, they’re still “illegal immigrants.”
Miss Rice also said, “It has been hard to muster the resources to support fledgling democracies—or to help the world's most desperate—the AIDs orphan in Uganda, the refugee fleeing Zimbabwe, the young woman who has been trafficked into the sex trade in Southeast Asia; the world's poorest in Haiti. Yet this assistance—together with the compassionate works of private charities—people of conscience and people of faith—has shown the soul of our country.” She mentioned at the RNC that, “We must work for an open global economy and pursue free and fair trade—to grow our exports and our influence abroad.” It’s important to note that though Miss Rice is a Conservative, she supports pursuing both free and fair trade and she believes that the US should continue to cooperate with the international community when it comes to resolving such global problems like human trafficking, AIDS, and environmental degradations.
I was really impressed by the fact that Miss Rice implored Republicans to come up with “compassionate immigration laws” at a time when the GOP is holding a national convention wherein the party would announce the identity of its official presidential nominee. Remember that Romney doesn’t have a clear policy yet on how to reform immigration in the US.
Such issues like immigration, global warming, and human trafficking affect all of us human beings. Hence, whether you’re a Conservative or a Liberal or an Independent, you should acknowledge the reality that such issues have to be dealt with properly and righteously. If you love human rights, civil liberties and freedom and, also, believe that humans need to help one another in order to survive and be truly-happy in this world of ours, whatever political party you subscribe to or belong to, you should champion the creation of a “compassionate immigration policy” and advocate the enactment of laws that can effectively curtail pollutions, extreme carbon-emissions and human trafficking.
The speech delivered by Miss Condoleezza Rice during the 2012 Republican National Convention fortified her public image as a tough, pragmatic and intelligent woman. She’s a “woman of substance” who knows that there are problems in this world that both Democratic and Republican camps should properly address because such issues involve values like compassion, mercy, righteousness, human dignity, global harmony, justice, human rights and freedom. Also, such global problems like pollutions and carbon-emissions do threaten the survival of the human race. Therefore, both Democratic and Republican parties need to address such global problems like illegal immigration, global warming, and human trafficking.
