August 15, 2012: My daughter's first day of kindergarten. I tripped over the dog, fell down the stairs, and broke my wrist fifteen minutes before school started. I did, however, walk her to school and take photos of her big day before I went to the ER. When she came home that afternoon, there was a note in her backpack: More than forty students and teachers had gone home sick that day. The county health department closed her school for the next two days for cleaning, and we received an update the following week that the culprit had been the norovirus. We won't ever forget that first week.
