It is disheartening and ridiculous that a community in an oil rich state, Okuijorogu in Okpe Local Government Area of Delta State is totally left out in the scheme of educational activities. This has affected their academic performance as the children clock miles each day to Adeje, Egborode, and Okwuijemor, the neighbouring communities in search of their educational pursuits. Children attending nursery/primary school have to travel as far as Adeje village which is approximately 2.3 miles from the outskirts of Okuijorogu to the entrance of Adeje. An average adult spends 20 mph, meaning it would take an adult 46 minutes to travel from Okuijorogu to Adeje. Nigeria has about 190 school days in a year. One need not be an expert to understand the impact this lengthy trip might have on children.

The community elders informed Deltawomen, and in line with the NGO's commitment to empower and alleviate the sufferings of the less privileged Deltans, Deltawomen has vowed to take up the case and pursue it to its logical conclusion.
According to the NGO's founder, Mrs Elsie Reed, "I have not seen a situation where a community will be left out totally in the scheme of education", stressing that it is part of governments responsibility to provide education to her citizens.
In pursuant to this, the NGO had written a request letter dated 21, August 2012 with reference number DW/Oku/001 to the state governor, Emmanuel Uduaghan, the speaker, Delta State house of Assembly, Hon. Victor Ochei, and the state commissioner for basic and secondary education, Professor Patrick Muoagbahare. The request letter was delivered to their secretaries which was signed and stamped.
However, as at the time of writing this report, nothing has been done about it, as those in government are silent on the issue. A letter requesting a school was sent and the letter has not been acknowledged nor has anybody visited the village, up until now.
