Relatives and friends of Tarek Rabaa demonstrate and block a main road in Beirut
BEIRUT: Relatives and friends of a telecoms engineer, Tarek Rabaa, accused wrongly of collaborating with the Israelian intelligence blocked the road leading to the National Museum Monday, on August 27, 2012 demanding his release.
Tarek Rabaa, an engineer at the mobile phone company Alfa, was kidnapped and arrested in July 2010, yet he is still in the trial phase in the military court in Beirut.
The Relatives and friends of Tarek Rabaa gathered for 3 hours near the Military Tribunal on Monday starting from 9:30 am, demanding his release and blocking a main Beirut road. Rabaa, a 41-years-old former Alfa Telecom employee, was summoned and detained in the ministry of defense for questioning on July 12, 2010 on suspicion of collaborating with the Mossad based on a french number which has been revealed to be for a taxi company Welcome V&V which deals with Alcatel-Lucent. Tarek has denied the allegations and said he knows long-time ago a French man, named Lionel Coussi, as they were colleagues between 1995 and 1997 at Cellis Telecom Company in Lebanon, now Alfa. His family has repeatedly called for his release, voicing the involvement of the so called Hizbullah in fabricating the charges against him. The relatives have also condemned what they described as the unlawful treatment he underwent after being summoned to the Defense Ministry including torture for 108 days.
Engineer Rabih Rabaa had given a speech which was broadcasted on local TV stations, insisting on releasing his brother because he is oppressed. Rabih explained the violation of law in Tarek's file and he gave a comparison on how the law is being applied on others who are supported by politicians. A very strong and clear message has been sent to all politicians in Lebanon to close this empty file, otherwise the family will demonstrate again and again until releasing Tarek RABAA.
