My Ten Sense: Be rewarded for spending

Although I’m not one to clip coupons, I do like to save money on purchases. So I save the simple way, by signing up for rewards cards at the stores I utilize the most.

I have a rewards card at my favorite breakfast spot, my favorite lunch spot, my favorite grocery store, my favorite movie theatre, my favorite clothing store and at my credit union.

Lately, my rewards cards have come in handy because I have earned a couple of free meals, a free drink and a free popcorn. I get $5-$20 knocked off whenever I use my grocery store’s rewards card and my purchases add up to fuel perks that recently saved me nearly $20 at the gas pump. And every time I use my credit union’s debit card, I earn points that I can use toward a plane ticket, a movie ticket, electronics and more.

So if you haven’t already, take the store clerks up on their offers to sign up for rewards cards. You just may earn a free meal or a free drink when you’re low on funds. Or maybe getting something for free from one of your favorite spots can brighten up a stressful day.

However, there is a downside for some rewards cards that can ruin your credit. Learn more on my financial advice blog, www.mytensense.com, and vote on which rewards cards are the best.
