People's Alliance for Democracy, Curses and Protest in Thailand

BANGKOK - There is a Yiddish curse, "May you grow like an onion with your head in the ground and then may the ground be fracked." Now back to Bangkok. On August 21, 2012, the People's Alliance for Democracy (PAD) staged a protest in front of the embassy of the United States of America.

About 200 people stood up and raised banners protesting against the US government for issuing a travel visa to former Prime Minister Mr. Thaksin Shinawatra.

The US Ambassador Ms. Kristie A. Kenney did not react to the demonstration however her representatives had met with the protest leaders to listen to their grievances.

The protesters placed a Thai death curse on the effigies of Thaksin and Kristie before attacking the figures.

Two weeks later, it seems the death wish has fizzled much to the disappointment of the Yellow Shirts. PAD will have to rethink their strategy on how to advocate for their issues on a more realistic platform or find their heads growing like an onion in the ground.
