    Labor Day Celebration in Brooklyn, NY

     
    The 45th annual West Indian Parade was celebrated in Brooklyn along Eastern Parkway on Monday September 3rd. This annual celebration takes place on Labor Day with music, dancing, colorful costumes, food and fun.

    This year’s grand marshals were famous Jamaican singer Harry Belafonte , Soca music king Machel Montano, NY Governor Cuomo and NY City Council Christine Quinn. NYC Mayor Bloomberg and NY police commissioner Ray Kelly lead the parade.

    Under cloudy skies the parade took off at noon and ended around 6pm. Revelers marched down Eastern Parkway to Grand Army plaza. Viewing stands were set up in front of the Brooklyn Museum were groups of dancers performed for the judges. This parade showcases the large West Indians community living in the Borough of Brooklyn.
