Iowa State Fair Sets New Recycling Record in 2012

For the second straight year, Waste Management has set a new recycling record at the Iowa State Fair. Waste Management recycled more than 29 tons at the 2012 State Fair, surpassing their 2011 record of 19 tons.

“Waste Management strives to give back to the communities we serve, particularly when it comes to the environment,” said Stephanie Regagnon, Waste Management spokesperson. “By setting this record, we not only reduce the amount of waste in Iowa’s landfills, we are helping improve the environment for future generations.”

Waste Management partnered with Keep Iowa Beautiful to keep the fairgrounds clean and maintain 300 recycling containers throughout the fairgrounds. Waste Management also worked with vendors at the Fair to encourage recycling.

“The Iowa State Fair recycling program is a great example of organizations working together with the community to improve the environment,” said Iowa State Fair CEO and Manager Gary Slater. “We are excited to set this new record, and we hope attendees were inspired to take home the eco-friendly practices they saw at the Fair. It is also important for Iowans to realize how important it is to make sure that events like the Iowa State Fair present a clean and attractive image to the public”

The Iowa State Fair is an 11-day event that hosts more than 1 million attendees. The 2013 Iowa State Fair is August 8-18.
