Our african heritage. How do we treat it?
Galati, Romania. This town ,in the east of the country ,is a genuine prison for wild animals from Africa and not only. It was supposed to be a zoo, like the ones we see in Netherlands. But instead, the hunger, the illness and the despair is surrounding these animals.
A project of modernization is being done with local and international funds but the animals are kept in the middle of the site. They are kept without food, so one lion chewed a piece of steel. A wire wrapped up the horns of a deer but none of the people there could call the veterinary. Why? Because it had happened before and everything ended up well. A bear lives whit it’s excrements and no one cleans there. And the water they drink becomes green.
But how about the construction? Well, they say it will be modern, but the drains are missing. There was a misunderstanding in the project because they’ve never done anything like that before. But it’s common sense for a person with BS in civil construction to understand that the paddocks need to be cleaned.
There are many zoos in Romania, and they might all be the same. It’s a shame how they are kept in a slow, certain death. Unfortunately, unless some international NGO or authoritie intervenes, we might as well forget about solving this problem. Because what we do now as citizens, as lovers of our world, is not enough.
