    Afro-Costa Rican Parade

The Afrodecendientes (African descendents of Costa Rica) celebrate their heritage in Puerto Limón every August. On the 31st, they march through the city with colorful costumes, floats and music. A horse brigade rides to the sounds of Bab Marley's "Buffalo Soldier". Their ancestors came to Limón Province from Jamaica as British citizens and employees of the American-owned railroad and its offshoot, the United Fruit Company.
