Sky Lanterns Must be Banned
Dear CNN,
Those pretty scenes of floating fire lanterns might be awesome to behold but they also hold the awesome power to destroy much in their path. My vacation home in western New York was recently destroyed by fire, along with two other homes, one of which was also totally destroyed. One of the possible causes of the devastation: Sky lanterns being launched within a half mile of the fire location. See Photo of what is left of my home. If you will check online you will see that Sky Lanterns have been Banned in Hawaii, Canada, California, Minnesota, Australia, Germany as well as several municipalities throughout our nation.
These floating fire lanterns use an open flame to travel where ever the prevailing winds may take them and are a definite fire hazard and public safety nightmare. They are a akin to launching a molotov cocktail into the night sky. I think we can all agree that it never makes good sense to play with fire!
CNN, please rethink your advertising program for your CNN Heroes Program. This is a wonderful program, but the backdrop you use to advertise your heroes are SKY LANTERNS, which are currently BANNED AS A FIRE HAZARD IN HAWAII, CALIFORNIA, MINNESOTA, MANY PROVINCES IN CANADA, AUSTRALIA & GERMANY.
It is not appropriate to link these wonderful heroes that do so much good for the world with a scene of ILLEGAL floating sky lanterns! Please re-work your advertising and start linking the Heroes to something other than playing with fire. I will be working however long it takes to get Sky Lanterns banned from the USA. What has happened to simple common sense? Since when is playing with fire Okay? Let's end the fatal attraction with sky lanterns now!
