Hurricane Isaac brought massive, extensive flooding to my hometown, Braithwaite, LA. Why did this happen? Or more importantly did this have to happen?

Aloma and Kenneth Savastano, known to me as Miss Aloma and Mr. Kenneth, are lifelong residents of Braithwaite, LA. They are the parent's of my best friend since childhood. Just a few days before Hurricane Isaac came ashore, they celebrated their 50th wedding anniversary. The devastation caused by the massive flooding is too great for words.

Hurricane Isaac, a category I hurricane rolled ashore on August 29, 2012 and Braithwaite had extensive flooding along all 18 miles. Miss Aloma and Mr. Kenneth's homesite did not flood for Katrina. They had 12 feet of water in their home with Hurricane Isaac. The photos I took over the last few days show the devastation along the road to their home as well as the devastation to their home, property and livelihood. What the photos don't show is the devastation to them or all the other folks that call Braithwaite home.

What do they do next? It's not as easy as rebuilding because this will happen again. It's not as easy as selling because who will buy in this area now? Why did this community, these good people have to experience this? Does the Corps of Engineers, the public officials, the government care? Is this area being sacrificed to make a spillway for New Orleans? Why?
