    Drought Destroyed Field

CNN PRODUCER NOTE     tomkellyfoto was driving along I-90 through Kennebec, South Dakota on September 7, where he photographed a field of dried up corn. 'I was just driving through this area, but it was ravaged with huge fields if corn and sunflowers that were completely or nearly destroyed by the drought,' he said. 'We drive through this area every year at this time, very stark difference this year.'
    - Jareen, CNN iReport producer

September is normally a time of plenty in the heartland of America. But this year's drought has taken a dramatic toll as seen in this cornfield near Kennebec, South Dakota. Standing only 12-18 inches high, leaves crunchy and dry, this field is nearly a complete loss.
