    A Rape Survivor Speaks

I am a thirty six year survivor of a brutal rape. I live with mental illness stemming from my rape only. I believe some perpetrators will serve time but a victim serves the life sentence. I believe rape is a premeditated crime a perpetrator knows when he is looking for his prey. I was chosen why walking home, beaten from behind knocked out but waking up to find myself being drug across a road. My screams were silent no-one heard my cries for help. I was thrown into his pick up truck where the more I fought the harder the blows. As he drove off and rapidly parked his truck I was raped. I was repeatedly rape through the wee hours of A November Winter night wearing Winter gear. When I found myself in the emergency room I was given a pill to terminate the possibly of a pregnancy. Detectives in the examination room getting my information. No agencies were available for my survival then. Much has changed since then and much has not. Victims are still the blame. Now the political word thinks they know what is best for a victim though they have never experienced rape themselves. How can they possibly know what a individual rape victim is feeling within herself.? It is true if some victims have spiritual belief to keep a rape pregnancy she should have that choice. But a victim who cannot do it, well it to should be a individual choice as well. I thought we aren't suppose to bring religion into politics. I have had years to think what I would of done had I gotten pregnant. I would not of been able to look into the eyes of my perpetrator for life. I'm already living a life sentence of rape and the aftermath. So my comment is no I would not of gone through a pregnancy from rape. A child is to be conceived through love not a violent act. It should stay that way. I think nothing is wrong if a victim seeks out at a emergency room or elsewhere to take a pill to stop a pregnancy before a fetus develops. It is a individual freedom of the right choice for the victim. It is actually saying it is alright to rape and force a pregnancy upon a woman. What about teenagers, who get pregnant is there going to be a age limit? What about victims with mental illness who can't take their medicines because of pregnancy? What will happen to the victim? Or does it matter to the political world? I wonder who fits the bill for the hospital stay, the Doctor bills etc. Will that be up to the victim as well, because are we going to blame her to, not just for the rape but the pregnancy to? Who looks into the child's eye and tells the child he/she was conceived out of a violent act. and/or adopted? Who tells the child daddy is a rapist? Or will these issues be a law where you cannot tell the child the truth because it's dangerous to themental health of a child? I don't think the political word is thinking of the woman or a child but of the perpetrator. A child is a gift from God that is true but he does not want a innocent child punished through the crime of rape to a woman when it is not out of the act of love but violent anger and force. Pregnancy forced upon a woman or teen forced to have a perpetrators child is a crime in itself. It should be freedom of choice. We are not God so who are they to make that decision? The final decision is between the victim and God. It is ok to have a opinion about what a victim should do about a pregnancy but the political world needs to stay out of it. How can they possibly know what to do if they were raped, or their, wives, loved one raped would they have a different opinion then? Would they understand rape and a victim then? I do not mean to state a cruel remark but we are looking at reality here and whose lives will be affected it sure won't be the politicians life. They may be for pro-life but do they really care what happens? Don't they see the dangers of force? Are they forcing a woman just like a perpetrator did? Are they stripping her of her rights? We do teach religion in this world and have freedom of what religion we choose are they forcing us into their religion beliefs of pro-life? Don't we have a choice of faith to believe what is right for us? God does not tolerate rapists in the bible why does the political world and the society? The rape involves the perpetrator or perpetrator's and the victim. We don't punish the perpetrator in courts sometimes but we sure know how to punish the victims, it's learned behavior from years ago. It's time for a change. I stay active in legislation for victims and survivors of rape and molestation. In Ilinois I fought for the Michelle Eppel Law. View it at www.ilga.gov Senate Bill1429 Passed Jan 10, 2012 in Illinois Public Act 096-0218 and Pubic Act 94-397. What do you think?
