    Nicaragua's San Cristobal Volcano Shoots Ashes 20,000 feet high


    CNN PRODUCER NOTE     CarlAhlers photographed the San Cristobal Volcano in Managua, Nicaragua, on September 8. He captured photos from a helicopter as the volcano shot ash into the air. 'Recent seismic activity in Costa Rica and off the coast of El Salvador seems to have awakened these volcanoes a bit,' he said. He says it was an incredible sight, watching the volcano release pressure and tension by shooting out ask. 'It was a beautiful act of nature with no catastrophic consequences as far as I know. I felt very lucky to have witnessed it the event,' he said.

    San Cristobal Volcano, located on the Northwest of Nicaragua, shot a 30 mile wide cloud of gas and ashes that reached up to 20,000 feet this morning. The emissions started at around 8:45 am and lasted for about an hour. The cloud was light in ash content and travelled north towards the Peninsula of Cosigüina. The volcano settled down soon after.
