Election 2012: Your stories |
Let Me Speak
I believe if I don't vote, then I won't be heard on anything. I won't be heard on women's righst, taxes, education, laws or anything else. You silence yourself and your household when you don't vote. Actually, you silence your community as well. The more people in a community that vote, the more noise you make. The less people in a community that vote, the quieter that community is. Voting is like a speaker, the more people in the community that vote, the louder the speaker becomes. The less people in the community that vote, the quieter the speaker becomes and if that community is not careful they will eventually become mute. I vote because people died for me to have this right. Once upon a time african americans and women were not able to vote and someone thought enough to fight for the future, not knowing if this would work while they were still alive. I have to. It is a right, but it is also mandatory for me. I have to carry the legacy of my ancestors on. Thank you to the men and women who fought for me to have this right. db
