This iReport is part of an assignment:
Virginia Tornado Crosses I-95 North
My name is Monica J. Landrito of Westbury, NY. Yes I did shoot the video myself through my cell phone. (authorized to distribute the video). Yes, you may use my video footage to increase awareness for people who could experience this.
Details of the video:
We were on our way home from our week long vacation in Miami, Florida. It was shot at I-95 northbound Virginia state around caroline county if I am not mistaken (exit 98). We were listening to the news on the radio and it was announced that the storm path was actually heading towards our way. My boyfriend, Mac Lester Valenzuela of Bellerose, NY instructed me to take pictures and video. It was a scary moment for us but there was really nothing else to do but sit still in the car and pray for our safety. It was quite an experience and luckily we were ok. The strong wind lasted for about 10 minutes until my boyfriend was confident enough to drive the car to the nearest overpass for cover. But he was also a bit scared of the overpass that it could collapse because of the strong wind that he decided to drive up to an open area where we are safe for any tree falling just incase.
My boyfriend's words were "baby relax and don't panic. We will be ok"
I hope my video can increase awareness for people for could experience something like this. Remain calm at all times. When you do, you make good decisions.
Yes, you may put our names for onscreen credit.
