    Teachers: Why do you teach?

    Chicago Teachers Go On STRIKE!

CNN PRODUCER NOTE     iReporter Maliyacular shot this video from around downtown Chicago's financial district as educators particpating in the Chicago Public School teachers' strike filled the streets, carrying signs and chanting in support of their cause. As a result of the strike today, about 350,000 public school students were given an unscheduled day off.
    - Echerneff, CNN iReport producer

For the first time in 25 years, Chicago teachers are on strike.

These teachers sure know how to make their voices HEARD! Throngs of Chicago teachers took to Chicago's streets, right in the midst of rush hour, wreaking havoc on Chicago's already congested city traffic.

All I can say is: more power to them. Normally, I'd be throwing a FIT with how much traffic I had to sit through in order to get home this evening, but quite frankly, I'm a firm believer that teachers in this country are incredibly undervalued for the role they play in society.

As such... good luck to all you Chicago teachers today. Well done for standing up for your rights... you are, after all, one of the most valuable professions our country has to offer and you deserve much more respect and visibility than you currently have.
