Grand Dame of Philippine Hotels Breaks Ground As First With Halal-Certified Kitchen Facility
By invictus1819
The historic Manila Hotel, the Grand Dame of Philippine hotels, achieved another breakthrough on August 31, 2012, as she inaugurated and opened her Halal Facilities at the popular Cafe Ilang-Ilang Restaurant.
Guests from the diplomatic community, government, media, and other sectors attended the event as they savored and tasted the Hotel's offering of halal food.
With the event, Manila Hotel has become the first-ever Philippine hotel with a Halal-certified Kitchen Facility, using different sets of cooking utensils and separate from the other kitchen facilities.
Talks are now ripe in the country's tourism and hotel industry that other big hotels are aching to follow Manila Hotel's lead.
It could be recalled that after the terrorist attacks on the United States on 9/11, Arab/Muslim tourists have avoided the United States and European Union countries because of profiling, discrimination, harassment, prejudice, etc.
The moneyed Middle East tourists are coming instead to other countries, such as in Asia, like Malaysia, Indonesia, Brunei, Singapore, and others, where they are more welcome.
They also prefer destinations that offer or have Muslim-friendly facilities, such as hotels offering genuine halal food, etc.
Thus, a non-Muslim country may try to attract the Middle East tourists and visitors with hotels and other facilities that offer Islamic dietary needs, as well as prayer facilities.
Manila Hotel's invitation for the August 31, 2012 launch of the Cafe Ilang-Ilang Halal Facility, says:
"Greetings from Manila Hotel!
"The year 2012 is a particularly big year for Manila Hotel because it marks our 100th year as the Philippines' first premier hotel. As the custodian of one of the country's historic landmarks, it is our duty to ensure that the Hotel's 100th year anniversary will be as grand and as memorable as the Hotel itself.
"As part of its year-long activities, Manila Hotel will be launching its Halal facility, particularly in Cafe Ilang-Ilang, the Hotel's main events buffet restaurant. With the upgraded Halal facilities in Cafe Ilang-Ilang, Manila Hotel was able to obtain Halal certification from Muslim Mindanao Halal Certification Board, Inc. (MMHCBI).
Being Halal-certified, Manila Hotel will be able to serve fully the target consumers and tourists, adequately and sufficiently meeting their demands based on the principles that govern Halal. This is deemed significant in the hotel and hospitality industry, as well as the tourism sector, since it would certainly help Philippine tourism with the possible surge of tourist influx from the Middle East, Indian and other Muslim countries." #
