Horrible Smell Rips Southern California
It started at about 10:00 PM last night. We were walking the dog and noticed a horrible smell - like rotten eggs. What could it be?
Throughout the day, the terrible smell has been smelt across Southern California. A spokesman for AQMD told the L.A. Times, "It’s very unusual that any odor would be this widespread, from the Coachella to Los Angeles County...We’re talking well over 100 miles. I can’t recall ever confirming an odor traveling that distance.”
Even the donkeys here in Reche Canyon have been baying all day. The horses and racoons are pissed off too!
South Coast Air Quality Management District -- the air pollution control agency for Orange County and portions of Los Angeles, San Bernardino and Riverside counties -- released a statement Monday afternoon saying their inspectors were checking out the origin of the stench.
The most likely culprit? At this late hour, it appears to be a 'Fish Kill' at the Salton Sea, a dead and dying inland lake about 80 miles south of Los Angeles CA.
