    Chicago Teacher Strike: Who suffers?

Chicago Public School teachers have been on strike for the third day now and haven’t reached an agreement. Chicago Teachers Union President Karen Lewis spoke on Monday that they would be on strike and that there some issues that they have not agreed on. Then right after Rahm Emmanuel spoke briefly that “is not a monetary problem there are just minor issues that we could not agree on” he said. In the morning there were teachers in each of the public schools standing in front of their schools with banners and signs. They were all wearing red shirts and they were getting ready to go downtown for the 3rd time for the strike. Some of the teachers had their children with them. The strike does not seem like is going to come to an end soon.
The students who attend these public schools have no choice but to stay home. Some parents do not support the strike because they are afraid there children may fall behind. Moreover, they are struggling to find childcare or someone to watch their kids while they are working. If the students miss a lot of school they would fall behind in the classroom and that is already biggest issue in Chicago Public School system. Many students are falling behind and scoring below their grade level. Students have no place to go and all the parents are going to be upset if the strike exceeds and they can’t come into an agreement. Even though some schools are open to help the parents out the majority of the schools are closed. What about those vulnerable kids, and the students that are falling behind, Do the Teacher Union care?
The teachers say they are fighting for the student’s rights but they are fighting for more money. Some teachers who work in these schools make more than $100, 000. They got what they wanted so what is it now?. Children need to be back in those classrooms learning.
