    A Light to the Heavens

    CNN PRODUCER NOTE     Standing along the eastern shore of the Hudson River, in Dobbs Ferry, NY, rmintzes captured this beautiful photograph of the Tribute of Light illuminating Manhattan's night sky from a distance. "I've seen the Tribute in Light for many years since the 9/11 attacks and I've always admired the simplicity and power of the symbolism of these twin towers of light reaching into the sky," he says. "I wanted my vantage point to be at a wider angle, as the effects of 9/11 extend far beyond the boundaries of New York. It never ceases to take my breath away, and I feel the effect is even more powerful when one is miles away from the city."

    Eleven years ago, I stood at this very spot, on a day as clear as today, and watched as an ominous cloud of death and destruction overshadowed and overpowered the New York City skyline. What I watched that day -- what we ALL watched, whether in person or via the media -- is something that I'll never forget, and that none of us should EVER forget. May we continue to honor the memory of all those lost on that terrible day, and may we continue to root out and vanquish those who brought this kind of violence and hatred to our shore.
