The Illusion of Control- Our Quest for an Explanation

When a tragedy occurs we all think to ourselves, why; why did this happen? What triggered this horrible tragedy to occur?

Why are we driven to find an explanation for these tragedies? We have observed a lot, we have experienced a lot and yet there is no shortage of riots, acts of terror, senseless shootings or other heinous crimes.

I think we strive to understand, so that we can convince ourselves that we can control what other people will do, how other people will react to certain circumstances, how to stop these people and these tragedies.

Some people believe it is imperative to assign blame for the rioting and embassy attack on a movie. They say we must get to the bottom of this, we must understand where this is coming from. Does anyone really believe that if we all just walked on egg shells and did absolutely nothing to offend Islam they would just leave us alone? We would all become the best of friends?

I think there are disturbed people and groups of people out there that are going to perpetrate whatever crime on humanity they choose no matter what we do, no matter what we ban, no matter how we cater to their whims.

So, why bother? It is all just an illusion anyway.
