Honoring Amb. Stevens in the Dog Park

In the Stuyvesant Square dog park in NYC today around 10 a.m. a group of "regulars" had taken it upon themselves to scale the base of the flag pole and lower the flag to half staff. One participant shared with me what I had already suspected, "we're doing this for Ambassador Stevens", he said. I want to stress that they weren't city employees or even officially charged with this responsibility. To my knowledge the flag has never been raised or lowered by anyone. It was a spontaneous act of humanity that took my breath away.
