9/11 memorial at Pepperdine University, Malibu, CA

This afternoon my girlfriend asked if I wanted to go for a motorcycle ride to tey and escape the heat wave that is hitting the Los Angeles area. It did not take much convincing and soon we were headed north on the Pacific Coast Highway. As we approached Pepperdine University in Malibu I could not help but notice there appeared to be a lot of flags ahead of us. I slowed down to discover there seemed to be thousands of flags from various nations, I had to stop.

I spoke with a German tourist that informed me that this was an annual event to mark the anniversary of 9/11. Each flag signified the nationality of one of the victims of 9/11; there are close to 3,000 there. It was a pretty amazing sight.
