I saw no hatred of Americans in Tunisia

My wife and I were in Tunis on September 7th just a few days before all the violence started. As Americans we saw no outward hatred of us while visiting and shopping. Tunisia is generally a country tolerant of many religions even though it is 97% Muslim.
I guess if I had known the Tunisians hated Americans as much as now demonstrated, we wouldn't have spent as much money as my wife and I did buying some of the wonderful products they make there.
Probably Americans need to avoid the whole region. I've always wanted to go to Egypt, but now feel I'll probably never go because it's too risky for Americans.
