    Lisbon joined Global Protest September15th

CNN PRODUCER NOTE     TTeixeira photographed anti-austerity protests in Lisbon, Portugal, on September 15. She says people were protesting against the new austerity measures, which were announced by the government just a few days prior. She says people are concerned about the austerity measures because they are worried these measures will not pull Portugal out of its financial crisis, and she says they can even prevent the country's economy from growing. 'These austerity measures are creating a negative impact on people. They are making the poor poorer, and we have more joblessness and homelessness now,' she said.
    - Jareen, CNN iReport producer

In Lisbon, tens of thousands of people gathered downtown in protest against government's new austerity measures, which aimed at reaching the budget deficit targets set by TROICA for the rescue of the country's debt crisis.
The protesters marched along the Avenue of the Repulic towards the Spain Square chanting slogans. "This debt is not ours!" and "IMF, get out of here now!", they chanted. It was one of the biggest turn-outs and followed the government's announcement on last Thursday of a new batch of austerity measures.
