A Sunday Afternoon of Laughter and Song With Vince Gill
Vince Gill returned home on a Sunday Afternoon to Oklahoma to share his love of the state and of his old high school alma mater - Northwest Classen High School in Oklahoma City in a benefit concert.
Vince Gill along with the Friends of Northwest Classen Foundation and many other patrons, friends and fans celebrated the opening of the Hudson Performance Hall at the school.
Other performers that were also graduates of Northwest Classen that came to celebrate / help raise monies for the school included Bill Maxwell and the Mojo Men.
Cliff Hudson and his wife Leslie of the Sonic Corporation started out the renovation of the auditorium with a gift donation of $500,000.00. Cliff--along with his Sonic customized guitar accompanied the Mojo Men during their singing debut during the afternoon. The friends, fans and other patrons that purchased tickets starting as low as $50.00 up to $1,000.00 raised an additional $250,000.00. Many individuals from all walks of life were in attendance from the leather-wearing bikers to the top-ranked executives / bankers.
To those of us who only knew and loved Vince's songs---quickly learned that he was also a jokester / comedian who shared his life growing up in Oklahoma City about his family in a satirical fashion. His stories about his dad were hilarious.
The highlight of the evening is when he shared his 'love for his wife'---Amy Grant and his family. He wanted all to know that she was his 'best friend' and the best thing that ever happened to him.
Vince serenaded the audience with many songs…but one of the all time favorites was the song that he had written about Amy and her smile after his first meeting / glance upon her face. He said that she had the most beautiful smile----and that he got to marry that person with that beautiful smile...quoting--"It’s been twelve years and she actually likes me and is really good to me" which brought a big swoon and smile to all in the audience.
It was a successful and fulfilling benefit event both financially and emotionally…it was a ‘feel good’ lazy afternoon with Bill Maxwell, The Mojo Men and the star headliner – Vince Gill.
Vince is truly a nice person that has an awesome charismatic personality---with a voice filled with wonderful melodious tones. He can just plum 'Sang'.....
Thanks Vince for making us laugh and smile with your humor and your music!!
The Northwest Classen Culinary Class under the instruction of Angela Doss prepared the most spectacular menu of tastey edibles.....wanted to give them a special mention.
Also, a 'Special Thanks' to Lisa Liebl at Mega Media for inviting CNN iReport to be a part of the media roster.
P. S. -- Please note additional live pictures taken during the concert and reception on buttons 2-10 above to include students that attended high school with Vince. This was the graduating class of 1976 from the Northwest Classen High School. Vince graduated in 1975.
