I took this photo in January 2011, during my trip to Israel to visit my family. I had this picture in my head, of what I wanted to capture and funnily enough I had it right in front of me in Jerusalem. The contrast of tradition vs modernity, Hebrew vs Arabic is really not new. It's the way that this woman was able to walk freely by herself in the Jewish quarter gave me some sort of faith that the conflict is progressing towards something more realistic. The most important message I hope viewers get from this is that life goes on, doesn't matter what's going on because citizens still go shopping, still see friends as well as go to work everyday despise the rockets being aimed at schools or disputes between both Israelis and Arabs. Don't move on from the conflict, but learn to respect its complexity and aim for everyday life to be integrated into everyone's routine, not just those that are fortunate to be in that situation.
