Mitt's Charitable Giving.
So Mitt Romney released his 2011 taxes and it shows he donated over $4 million to charity. Add that to his 14.1% tax rate and he spent almost 40% of his income on charity! Wow, that seems really admirable. But wait...
So most of his charitable donations goes to his Church. That is expected of him. I'm not really that impressed about this donation. He's got to pay the devil, in a matter of speaking. haha
Sorry Mormons, I'm not a fan of Christian sects. I was raised Catholic. I reject indoctrination. Mormons are as indoctrinated as any Christians, but they just have some odder beliefs. I honor everyone's right to believe in their churches' wacky beliefs. I wouldn't want to live in a society that didn't believe in some deity. Just don't try to get me to believe what you do and I'm fine with you.
Then I read that most of Romney's other charitable donations were given to his and Ann's own charity! Not only that, but if you think the full amount of his donation will go to needy causes, think again. Only $650,000 annually actually gets dispersed. What is done with the rest of the moula? Who knows? Admin costs maybe?
I've seen those who are touting Mitt's generosity and comparing his charity to Obama's and making Mitt out to be some sort of angel. I'm not seeing that. Mitt is a very, very rich man. Of course he gives more.
Did you know that Mitt didn't even deduct all of his donations? He could have, but then his overall tax rate would have been reduced to below 13% and he didn't want that. That would look bad for his campaign. So he paid extra taxes to avoid the lower rate. What a big man.
Do I think Mitt is a bad man because he is rich? NO. Do I disapprove of the way he made his money? YES
I know liberals are slammed for our high moral ground but I don't admire that kind of wealth. I like the bootstraps kind of rich. The ones who worked hard, maintained integrity and gave everyone a fair deal. Maybe I'm too idealistic, but the way Mitt got rich doesn't make him admirable. Not to me. It kind of makes him seem icky.
Yeah, yeah. I know. I'm envious. LOL
Thanks for reading!
