Cherry @the Movies review of Lawless
I recommend Lawless the depression drama starring Tom Hardy, Shia LaBeouf, Guy Pearce and Gary Oldman. This is based on a true life story about the prohibition, the Great Depression, bootlegging and the war on alcohal by local/state authorities who wanted a kickback from the mooonshine runners.
This is a very good film with a solid cast that depicts a time period that may not be familiar for everyone especially taking place not in Chicago, New York or other major city but instead is about how prohibition affected a small town in rural Virginia and a family that lived by it's own code.
I give this film a solid B+ and recommend you go see it. The cast does a great job, it has a very realistic depiction of the time (segregation, religion, the poor in rural areas, cars, clothing, etc) and a great interplay between the brothers.
What do you think of this story?
