United Flight 1054 Departing Kailua Kona Hi Friday the 21st suffered a major mechanical failure about an hour after takeoff. At 32000 ft, the emergency exit window next to seat 20F cracked and blew out. Only the inner most plastic layer kept the cabin from loosening pressure. The captain immediately dropped the plane to 10,000 ft to protect the passengers incase the thin plastic didn’t hold, and called for help. United Airline technicians directed the flight to Honolulu international airport for emergency repairs. During the hour long flight back to Honolulu, the captain was forced to fly with the flaps deployed desperately trying to burn excess fuel and bring the airline to a safe landing weight. At 4pm flight 1054 landed safely at the Honolulu international airport. No passengers were injured.
