The Stilt Homes of Myanmar
The Inle Lake region of Burma (Myanmar) has thousands of buildings built on stilts, on the lake. Due to the extreme, annual monsoons, they must be constructed very well and be able to endure weeks and weeks of incessant wind, rain and heat. The buildings range from monasteries to shops, schools and of course many, many homes. As like anywhere, the more money you have, the bigger the home. Many of the houses are meticulously maintained, painted regularly (without rollers from what I saw!) and additions are added in lockstep with growing families. Inle Lake, Burma, a very magical place indeed.
