    Are you living with depression?

    There is hope

I have suffered from depression for as long as I can remember. I had been to therapy several times, on and off antidepressants but it was not until I was recovering from a suicide attempt that I started to understand me. I have depression, I live with it every day. Through family therapy, I realized that I did not have the control to make others happy. The only person I could make happy was myself. I enrolled in an out patient treatment program, where I learned coping skills, meditation techniques, and how to manage my disease.

Yes, depression is a disease, just like diabetes or hypertension. It has to be managed everyday. I allow myself a down day here and there, but never two days in a row. I am a wife and a mother of three and sometimes my needs come last but I make a point to have time for myself.
By managing my disease everyday, I am able to see when my medications and coping skills are not quite working and that is when I seek advise from my doctor.

Life is not always perfect. It is easy to give up but I have found the strength in myself to never give up hope.
