Philadelphia: Protest against anti-muslim movie and promoting peace
Late afternoon on Friday, 28 September, Muslim Americans from around the Philadelphia area joined together as they conducted a peaceful protest in which around 250 men and women walked from City Hall of Philadelphia, PA to Independence Hall. Leading this rally included Taqi Kamal, Rizwan Mallick, Muhammad Khaleed, Rashid Shaikh with friends and family. The Philadelphia Police Department also cooperated with the rally. Posters held by these Muslims included the sayings, “Islam = Peace”, “We are Muslim AND We are American”, “Speak Good or Remain Silent- Prophet Muhammad (PBUH) ”, “We love Prophet Muhammad (PBUH)”, “Jesus, Moses & Muhammad (PBUT) are Brothers in Faith”, “Respect ALL Religions and ALL Prophets” and more. The purpose of this procession was to spread awareness of Islam and to honor the Prophet Muhammad (PBUH). It was in response to the insults portrayed by the blasphemous film aired earlier this month. Upon being asked the point of the protest, a Muslim replied, “It wasn’t as much to stop the YouTube video, as much as it was to let others know the importance of Prophet Muhammad (PBUH). The protest was in his honor, and to demonstrate the peacefulness of Islam.” Joining the Muslims were a few leaders of the Christian Community, Jay Salik, Vicotr Gil, Pettrick (Petty) and Anjum Bhatti. Also joining this protest were Rana Taj, Anwer Khan, Mehfooz Hydari, Muhammad Ayub, Imran Mumtaz, Asad Gumman, Shakil Khan, Salah Uddin, Asif Ahmed, Waheed Shaikh, Muhammad Farooq, Fakhre Allam, Neelofar, Shabana, Iqra, Nida, Aisha, Machelle and many more.
